Birthing Center Pictures

We did not take a lot of pictures at the birthing center as we were both involved in Jason's birth (obviously one of us more than the other).  The decision to give birth at a birthing center with a midwife rather than a traditional hospital birth was a natural choice for us and allowed us to feel more comfortable and at ease with the task at hand.

Catherine's labor began early Wednesday morning the 10th at about 3am with simple cramps.  By the time we arrived at the center at about 11am, Catherine was already 4cm dilated and fully effaced.  According to the midwife, active labor did not begin until about 6pm and Catherine did not start pushing until about 10:30pm.  Jason was born at 11:47pm.  Catherine had bet she would deliver on the 10th and she won her bet.  And yes she did use the jacuzzi !!
Catherine in the birthing room with our doulah Jessica at about 12:30 pm.
Upon delivery, the midwife and nurse placed Jason on Catherine's chest without telling us his gender.  We found out ourselves and we thought that learning on our own was a great way to be introduced to our son rather than being told "what" and "who" he was.
We left the Elizabeth Seton Birthing Center at about 1:30 pm on Tuesday the 11th barely 26.5 hours after we arrived.  This picture is a duplicate of the picture of us hanging on the wall at the Center with all of the other new Spring arrivals.
Prior to Jason's birth all four grandparents-to-be visited us at the Center.  Unfortunately, Julie's arrival was a bit late due to an unexpected "trip" which landed her briefly at the St. Vincent's ER with a nasty sprained ankle.  We want to thank Gloria and Rudy for picking us up and taking Jason home for the first time.

Lisa Gurley made an unexpected visit to the Center as she was waiting at the corner of 14th and 7th on 4/11 to meet Catherine to pass Eric's Mets tickets.  The meeting had been set up earlier that week as Cath had a scheduled exam on the 11th at the Center.
